From £7,500 heat pump grants to free solar panels under ECO4 — here is every government funding scheme available to East Anglia homeowners and landlords in 2026.
There has never been more government support for home renewable energy. Between the £7,500 BUS heat pump grant, 0% VAT on solar and batteries, ECO4 free installations, and the new Warm Homes Local Grant, many East Anglia households can dramatically reduce their installation costs — or access measures entirely for free.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I claim multiple grants at the same time?
Yes, in many cases. For example, a homeowner can claim: 0% VAT on solar panels AND 0% VAT on battery storage AND the BUS grant for a heat pump. ECO4 and the Warm Homes Local Grant cannot be combined on the same measure (you claim one or the other), but you could use ECO4 for insulation and BUS for a heat pump on the same property.
Is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme still available in 2026?
Yes. The BUS provides a £7,500 grant toward air source heat pump installations and is funded until March 2028. The scheme is administered through Ofgem and requires an MCS-certified installer (like Green Hat Renewables) to apply on your behalf. It cannot be combined with ECO4 for the same measure.
What is the Warm Homes Plan?
The Warm Homes Plan is the government's flagship energy efficiency programme announced in 2025, replacing the previous Energy Efficiency Task Force approach. It includes: Warm Homes: Local Grant (free upgrades for low-income households, delivered by local councils), Warm Homes: Boiler Upgrade Scheme (continuation of BUS), and planned low-interest Warm Homes Loans for households above the income threshold. The plan has a budget of £15 billion over the parliament.
Who qualifies for the Warm Homes Local Grant?
The Warm Homes Local Grant is targeted at owner-occupiers and private renters with a household income below £36,000 (or below the local median income in higher-cost areas) living in EPC D–G rated homes. It is delivered by local councils in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, each with their own application process. We can check eligibility for your specific postcode.
Does 0% VAT apply to heat pump installations?
Yes. Heat pump installations, solar PV, battery storage, wind turbines, and biomass systems all qualify for 0% VAT in the UK since April 2022. This was made permanent in the Spring 2024 budget. It reduces the installed cost of a heat pump by roughly £1,000–£1,500 compared to the previous 5% rate.
Is there a grant for EV charger installation in 2026?
The OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) grant is now targeted at renters, landlords, and flat owners — homeowners in standard houses no longer qualify. The grant provides £350 toward a home EV charger for eligible renters/flat owners. Additionally, the Workplace Charging Scheme provides up to £350 per socket for businesses installing staff EV chargers.
How do I apply for grants? Do I do it myself?
For BUS (heat pump grant): your installer applies on your behalf — you do not submit anything to Ofgem directly. For ECO4: your installer or a referral agent submits the application to the energy supplier. For Warm Homes Local Grant: apply through your local council's website or via a participating installer like Green Hat. For 0% VAT: it is automatically applied — you do not apply separately.
