Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to pay upfront for solar panels?

Yes, solar panels are a capital purchase. However, the 0% VAT means you pay significantly less than you would at the standard rate. We also work with several financing partners who offer low-interest loans specifically for renewable energy installations, allowing you to spread the cost over 5-10 years while benefiting from immediate energy savings.

How does the £7,500 heat pump grant work?

We apply to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme on your behalf before installation begins. Once approved, the £7,500 is deducted directly from your invoice. You only pay the balance. There is no income test or means assessment. You need a valid EPC and must be replacing a fossil fuel heating system.

Can I get finance for renewable energy installations?

Yes. We can refer you to specialist green finance providers who offer competitive rates for solar, battery, and heat pump installations. Typical terms are 5-10 years at 4-8% APR. In many cases, your monthly loan payment is less than the monthly energy savings, making it cash-flow positive from day one.

What tax relief can businesses claim?

Businesses can claim the full cost of renewable energy installations through the Annual Investment Allowance (AIA). At 25% corporation tax, this effectively reduces the cost by 25%. Combined with 0% VAT and electricity savings, commercial solar systems typically achieve payback in 2-3 years.

Do the grants stack? Can I get multiple incentives?

Yes. A homeowner installing a heat pump with solar panels benefits from both the £7,500 BUS grant (on the heat pump) and 0% VAT (on everything). They can then earn SEG income from surplus solar exports. These incentives stack to significantly reduce the total cost of a whole-house renewable retrofit.

How long will these grants be available?

The 0% VAT runs until March 2027. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is confirmed until March 2028. The SEG is ongoing with no announced end date. We recommend acting while all schemes are available, as past schemes (like the Feed-in Tariff) have closed with limited notice.
