Heat Pump Grants in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire: 2026 Complete Guide

The BUS £7,500 grant, Norfolk Warm Homes, Suffolk Warm Homes (March deadline), and CERP Cambridgeshire — everything homeowners across East Anglia need to know before applying.

Heat Pump Grants in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire: 2026 Complete Guide

There has never been more government support for switching to a heat pump in East Anglia. Between the national £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, the county-level Warm Homes Local Grants in Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire, and 0% VAT on installation, many homeowners can now install a heat pump for £2,000–£4,000 net — or even for free if they qualify for the income-based schemes.

This guide covers every grant available to Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire homeowners in 2026, with eligibility criteria, application processes, and important deadlines.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) — £7,500 for All Three Counties

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is available to all homeowners in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk regardless of income. It provides a £7,500 grant toward air source heat pump installation (ASHP), a £7,500 grant for ground source heat pumps (GSHP), and a £5,000 grant for biomass boilers.

The grant is not paid to you — it is applied directly by your MCS-certified installer (like Green Hat Renewables) as a discount on your invoice. You never see the money change hands. The installer applies to Ofgem on your behalf and Ofgem reimburses the installer.

BUS eligibility requirements: the property must be in England (or Wales), it must not currently be heated by a heat pump, and the installer must be MCS certified. Properties that have received a BUS grant before are not eligible for a second grant on the same installation.

  • Cambridgeshire postcodes: CB1–CB25, PE1–PE7, PE13–PE16, PE26–PE29 — all eligible
  • Norfolk postcodes: NR1–NR34, PE30–PE38 — all eligible
  • Suffolk postcodes: IP1–IP33, CB8–CB9, CO10 — all eligible

Cambridgeshire: CERP Warm Homes Local Grant

The CERP (Cambridgeshire Energy Retrofit Programme) Warm Homes Local Grant is administered by Action on Energy Cambridgeshire on behalf of all six Cambridgeshire districts plus Peterborough City Council. The fund has £8.5 million allocated for April 2025–March 2028.

Eligibility: owner-occupiers or private tenants in a property with EPC D, E, F, or G rating, with a household income below £36,000 (or below local median income in higher-cost areas like South Cambridgeshire). Grant value up to £15,000 per property.

Key postcodes: CB1–CB25 (Cambridge and villages), PE1–PE7 (Peterborough), PE27–PE29 (St Ives/Huntingdon), PE13–PE16 (March/Wisbech/Chatteris).

Suffolk: Warm Homes Local Grant — March 2026 Deadline

The Suffolk Warm Homes Local Grant has a critical deadline of March 2026 — within the next few weeks. Suffolk County Council secured £1.38 million and must allocate all funds by the end of March. If you live in an eligible Suffolk postcode and are income-qualified, you should contact us immediately.

Priority postcodes: Ipswich (IP1–IP4), Lowestoft (NR32–NR33), Felixstowe (IP11), Beccles (NR34), Stowmarket (IP14). The grant covers heat pumps, solar panels, and insulation measures.

For properties that miss the March 2026 deadline, the next Suffolk grant round is expected in Autumn 2026 as part of the Warm Homes Plan continuation.

Norfolk: Warm Homes Local Grant

The Norfolk Warm Homes Partnership administers the £11.4m Norfolk Warm Homes Local Grant, with funding running until March 2028 — so there is less urgency here than in Suffolk. The grant is administered by Broadland and South Norfolk Council on behalf of all Norfolk districts.

Key difference from national BUS grant: the Norfolk Warm Homes grant requires solar panels to be installed as part of a wider retrofit package (with insulation or heat pump) rather than as a standalone measure. This is not a national rule — it is specific to how Norfolk has chosen to administer its allocation.

For standalone solar enquiries in Norfolk, the BUS grant (for heat pumps), 0% VAT (for solar), and the Smart Export Guarantee are all still available without any income test.

How We Handle Grant Applications

At Green Hat Renewables, we handle every grant application as part of our standard installation service. Before we quote, we check which grants you are eligible for across all three counties. We submit BUS applications directly to Ofgem, facilitate Warm Homes Local Grant applications through the relevant local authority, and apply 0% VAT automatically.

You will never need to navigate government portals or fill in complex forms yourself. Our team has submitted hundreds of BUS applications and is familiar with the requirements of every local authority in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
