What Is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides a £7,500 grant for air source heat pump installation, paid directly to your MCS-certified installer and deducted from your quoted price. You never handle the grant money. The scheme budget was doubled to £295 million for 2025/26 and extended through at least 2028, making it a reliable long-term incentive. Over 100,000 applications have been processed by mid-2025. From April 2026, air-to-air heat pumps also became eligible at £2,500.
Eligibility Requirements
Your property must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no outstanding loft or cavity wall insulation recommendations. However, from 2025 the EPC requirements were relaxed — alternatives to a valid EPC are now accepted. The property must be in England or Wales. The existing heating system must be a fossil fuel boiler (gas, oil, or LPG) or direct electric heating. New-build properties are not eligible. We check your eligibility during the free survey and handle the entire BUS application on your behalf.
How the Process Works
Step 1: Free home survey and heat loss calculation. Step 2: We provide a fixed-price quote showing the full cost minus the £7,500 grant. Step 3: You accept the quote and we apply for the BUS voucher through the Ofgem portal. Step 4: Voucher approved (typically 2-4 weeks). Step 5: Installation completed in 2-3 days. Step 6: We redeem the voucher directly with Ofgem. You only pay the net amount shown on your quote.
