Solar + EV: Near-Free Motoring in March

The myenergi Zappi is uniquely designed to work with solar panels. It detects when your solar system is generating surplus electricity and uses it to charge your EV — electricity that would otherwise be exported to the grid at 12–15p/kWh. For March homeowners with a 4kW solar system, the Zappi can provide 800–1,500 kWh of free EV charging per year — worth £220–£420 at standard rates.

Solar-Powered EV Charging in March

Pairing a solar panel system with your EV charger in March means driving on free electricity. With 1,020 kWh/m² annual solar irradiance, March generates enough surplus solar to cover 5,000–8,000 miles of EV driving per year at zero fuel cost. The myenergi Zappi is specifically designed to divert surplus solar power directly to your EV — no manual scheduling needed.

Battery + EV: Charge Overnight for 2p/mile

A home battery (GivEnergy 9.5kWh) paired with a smart tariff charges from the grid overnight at 7–15p/kWh, then feeds your EV charger during the day or early evening. This reduces EV charging costs to as little as 2p/mile — compared to 7p/mile at standard home rates or 15p/mile at public rapid chargers. For March households driving 10,000 miles/year, that is a saving of up to £500–£1,000 annually versus petrol at current prices.

Free EV Charging Potential in March

March sits in the heart of the Cambridgeshire Fens — one of the driest and flattest regions in England. The unobstructed horizon in all directions maximises solar exposure throughout the day. This high solar yield means more surplus electricity available for EV charging via a Zappi — March homeowners with solar panels can expect 3,000-6,000 miles of free driving per year from solar alone.

Complete Home Energy System in March

An EV charger works best as part of a complete renewable energy system.
